Slack
The Rhodes College Computer Science Department uses Slack to communicate with our students. We have a variety of channels on Slack for our classes and general announcements.
Signing up for Slack and our class channel
- You can sign up at rhodes-cs.slack.com.
- Once you sign up, you can interact with Slack through the website, but there are also stand-alone apps for your desktop and phone.
- Then join the #comp-372-s22 channel.
- I also suggest joining the
#general
and#announcements
channels. You may also want to join#random
.
Using Slack
I will use the Slack channel to post announcements to the class, but I find it’s also nice just to have a space where we can discuss course content, as well as post not-so-serious things as well.
Here are some good ways to use our Slack channel:
Post online resources you’ve found related to class (webpages, videos, etc). This can be anything from a walkthrough of an algorithm we’ve discussed in class that you found helpful, to a video of an application of some topic from class.
Ask general questions about course content (“Can someone remind me what Bayes’ rule is?”, “I don’t understand the difference between admissibility and consistency; can someone explain?”)
Post humorous things like jokes and memes. Yes, that’s totally fine, and I encourage it!
Using Slack anonymously
If you’re too shy to ask a question or post something publicly in slack, you can anonymize yourself by putting
/anon
before your message. For example, you could post
/anon How do I do a proof by induction?
